I emailed Andrew Rawnsley about my situation with Lotus. Andrew was one of the founding editors of xlr8r Magazine, another rave culture magazine that started with a spiritual and cultural focus, and then gradually became your standard music industry rag, with a little bitter attitude thrown in for good measure. It was founded three years before Lotus, and made the switch at about this same time (five years after founding). Andrew resigned from his position at xlr8r three years ago, and left to pursue a life of hermitude and reading in Hawaii. From the little that I understood about his departure from xlr8r (I never met him personally, and only gained contact with him via email after he’d left xlr8r), it sounded like Andrew left for reasons similar to my justifications for leaving Lotus.
So, I included him on an email I sent out yesterday to close friends and family, explaining my resignation. He replied and we’ve been talking back and forth. Here are some experpts.
