I requested a phone interview with the folks at CPC, more so I could ask them questions rather than them asking me questions. Jeremy Evans, the genuinely pleasent man I spoke to last week was the one conducting the interview, and he proved to be very helpful.

Yes, most of the applicants are fresh college grads (many of them are probably finishing up their final term of college as we speak), but the course is what you make it, he reassured me. We talked over my experience and history, and he asks: “So, what’s your long term goal?”

I should have been prepared for that one: it’s a pretty basic question, but I didn’t have a tidy answer–I ramble about independant publications and the alternative media, and explain that I know I’ll probably need to put in some time at a large magazine before I have the money and skills to break out on my own. Jeremy gracefully steps over the mess than just came out of my mouth, and says he think CPC can help me acheive my goals of eventual independent publishing by supplying me with the opportunities to make the contacts and connections I’ll need, as well as the solid foundation of knowlege about all aspects of publishing a magazine.

Jeremy, I owe you one.

Despite my fumble, the interview went pretty well. We talked for 45 minutes or so, he hunted down the Lotus webpage and started asking me questions about the magazine. It was a good talk. I’m feeling hopeful, although I am slowly coming to grip with the fact that walking this path means probably moving to New York. Dear lord.
