Jet City
Before it was known for grunge, overpriced lattes, and Microsoft, Seattle was Jet City, the working class home of the Boeing Company, maker of the world’s airplanes. Boeing, however, has just announced that, after 85 years, the company will be moving their headquarters out of Seattle. Although a local economist thought that “it is a reasonably minor event for Puget Sound from an economic standpoint,” Boeing employs >78,400 people in the Seattle area. That’s a hell of a lot.
