An Indian hugging saint named Amma has been hugging thousands of followers in the building right next door for the last five days. I would really like to go hug Amma myself (when was the last time YOU hugged a saint?) since she’s leaving tomorrow and it’s so close by…but I’m running on fumes at this point (I’m slap-happy-exhausted after my sixth 18 hours of work a day in a row), that sort of deluxional sleep-deprived psychosis that finds my eyes focusing independently, and sees bursts of energy followed by unblinking stares and slack jawed stupification. Sleep-dep is when you’re so tired that your eyelids stop drooping, and instead the lower lid starts creeping upward, desparate to make contact with its upper crust friend. Sleep-dep is when you start imagining your eyelids as upper and lower class friends, the elite upper lid and the hard-working lower lid. They’re friends though. They work together for the common good of the global eyeball.

Perhaps a hug from Amma could help. Then again, perhaps sleep would be more helpful. I’m torn between enlightenment and rest.
