Rumors
Today I got an email (similar to this one) describing how we should all step outside and light a candle at 7pm tonight because “they” are going to take a satellite photo and post it on “the news” tomorrow morning.

It was pretty clear to me that it was a hoax (a well-intentioned one, to be sure), and in doing a little research, I found this site, which lists rumors to have come out of the September 11th attack, and discusses the validity of each one. A valuable resource for obsessed media critics like myself.

The candle email that made the rounds today was indeed a hoax. I guess the moral of the story is that we should just light candles out of remembrance, not for some satellite.
