By Monday afternoon Parks Superintendent Ken Bounds was saying something entirely different. The decision had been reversed, supposedly because removing the few offending tiles might damage the others around them. And, besides, few children play in the dinky dead-end on Lake Union, anyway.

In truth, it had to be the outrage of hundreds of calls to City Hall, including to the office of Mayor Greg Nickels, that won out over the tyranny of one. The tiles could stay this time, although it was not to be seen as a precedent for parks promoting wine.
