Oh, and speaking of sociology, here’s a great sociological analysis of spirituality in the San Francisco rave community. Reading this reminds me of how working for magazines and newspapers has changed my writing — I used to write articles/essays like this, but now the language of sociology seems so self-consciously wordy. (i.e. “Well, since I need to make writing about rave culture sound like science, I better use language as esoteric as possible.”) Regardless of my quibbles with the wording (it’s not the writer’s fault that sociologists communicate like that), it’s an insightful article.
