Oh, and speaking of sociology, here’s a great sociological analysis of spirituality in the San Francisco rave community. Reading this reminds me of how working for magazines and newspapers has changed my writing — I used to write articles/essays like this, but now the language of sociology seems so self-consciously wordy. (i.e. “Well, since I need to make writing about rave culture sound like science, I better use language as esoteric as possible.”) Regardless of my quibbles with the wording (it’s not the writer’s fault that sociologists communicate like that), it’s an insightful article. It goes well with this one I wrote for Lotus in 1997. Thanks for the link, Terra.
