Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
Guy Ritchie, Madonna’s husband, directed both her new video (where she appears to be in a political torture chamber), and her new movie (where she plays a rich super-bitch marooned on a desert island who is violently subjugated by a former servant). Notice a common thread? Between the video and the film, Madonna is kicked, beaten, raped, submerged against her will in water, impaled by a crossbow, kicks and screams, and is electrocuted.
Something about these two Guy & Madge collaborations suggests to me that their relationship has some interesting power dynamics.

actually, the video is directed by some guy name Traktor but Guy directed her in a BMW short called Star, and she basically spends about six minutes getting bounced around the inside of a BMW at about 80 miles an hour, so basically, “intresting power dynamics” indeed.

Has anybody in the States mentioned that the film is actually a remake of a 1970s Italian movie starring Mariangela Melato and Giancarlo Giannini?!
And that the actor playing Madge’s partner is Giannini’s son?
The Italian movie, called “Rapiti da un insolito destino” and directed by wonderfully funny filmmaker Lina Wertmuller, had a strong political connotation, which I am sure has gone lost in the Madonna flick. However, I’m going to see SWEPT AWAY (when it comes out in Italy).

“Has anyone in the States mentioned it?!” While I appreciate your outrage, Anonymous Poster, every single review linked on the MetaCritic page I referenced in this post mentions that A) the movie is a remake B) Giannini’s son is in it and C) the remake sucks ass compared to the more-political Italian original. Click the links before getting outraged. You might save yourself some dismay.
