Today I:

  • Drove for 30 minutes to interview Anah for the article about hooping that I’m writing on-spec for the LA Weekly.
  • While en route to that appointment, I got a call referring this job. Supposedly I have an interview tomorrow at 9:30, but the agent (who’s company I’m unfamiliar with) never called back to tell me where the interview is. I looked up the address online, but the question is, if I didn’t get a confirmation call, do I start driving that direction at 8:45 tomorrow morning? [Update: Interview happening Monday] Update: apparently dude was a total flake and didn’t feel the need to return my calls.
  • Drove 40 minutes to go get my legs waxed by my regular woman, Mina. Today, I learned that Mina is not South Pacific Islander, as I had guessed, but Iranian. I was not only wrong, I was really wrong. The moral of the story is that if a woman who wears copious amounts of black liquid eyeliner looks like she has beautiful Asian eyes, you shouldn’t believe she is Asian any more than you should believe, if she looks like she has enormous round breasts, that she was born with them.
  • Drove 20 minutes home.
  • Worked all day on hooping article. It’s very reportly, and a little bit unfocused. I do believe I use my narrative non-fiction as a crutch. I feel a little lost without it. Punishment: 50 lashings for the weak writer with a wet noodle.
  • Started to get new hooping trick down: getting hoop rotating on elbow over my head.
  • Watched several episodes of The Sopranos on DVD.
  • Skipped cocktails with friends to work more on article. Still not totally happy with it.
