Last night’s meal at Bobby & Juju’s was orgasmic. They’ve both had a lot of experience with preparing raw food, and made us a meal that just about blew my mind.
First were the “cocktails”: glasses of water from baby coconuts. Simple, sweet, and divine.
Then were the salads, on a bed of kale with long tendrils of sweet pea sprouts and red bell pepper and a super yummy dressing. On the side, we had these truly remarkale raw muffins. I’m not quite sure how they made these little things…I guess carrot pulp, coconut meat, dates, some honey, and other stuff, kneeded together and then dried in a dehydrator. Andreas and I haven’t had any sort of bread or carbohydrate since last Monday…and these little raw rolls were like warm, moist, tasty heaven.
And don’t even get me started on the entrees! Raw green curry on “noodles” made out of zuccinni and yellow squash!! I’m a spice weenie, and the dish was super hot, but I couldn’t stop gobbling down this stuff…the curry sauce was so rich and amazing (thanks to coconut milk and spices and I don’t even know what else), and somehow Bobby had marinated and then dehydrated some mushrooms and broccoli in a way that made them taste stir-fried. The “noodles” were flexibile and noodly and so unbelievably tasty that it was hard to comprehend that they were just strips of zuccini and squash.
If I had had my camera, I would have taken food porn pictures so that I could mouth-masturbate to this meal all week long. It was that good.
Today has been a little bit less exciting, food-wise, but Dre and I were totally inspired and had been looking forward to the farmer’s market all week…we got tons of fruits for juicing, and spent a long time perusing the sprout farmer’s booth…while nuts aren’t ok on this cleanse, sprouted seeds and nuts are, and this sprout farmer had a whole table full of various sprouted seeds. Excellent garnish on salads, and pretty good just to nibble on.
As for today:
Juicy excuse for breakfast (JEFB from now on)
Carrot apple
Lunch
Really excellent salad with romain lettuce, sprouted seeds, red bell peppers, sweet pea sprouts, sliced sweet peas, and garlic dressing. Strawberries and tasty organic dates for dessert.
Dinner
Before he left for soccer, Andreas made a cream of mushroom soup that smells really good. I guess there’s even a special little onion garnish that goes on top? Looks tasty.
In other news: I am a fountain today. See Asstronaut’s cleanse journal to understand that veiled reference.

I’m really curious about the whole willpower aspect of cleanses. My best friend’s mom is “one of the world’s premier raw foodists” and although she’s been trying to put me on a cleanse for years now, I balk because of the whole “what about the cravings?” thing. Are you experiencing that at all?

I actually haven’t had any cravings yet, but I’m still in the first week. My cravings from prior cleanses tended to be sweet, buttery breads.
The willpower aspect is kind of what I like the most about cleansing…it’s cool to get to conquer your own cravings. It’s also hard, which is why having a cleanse buddy is SO important. It’s SO much easier to cleanse when you have someone else to cook with, commisserate with, and compare notes with.

“…food porn pictures so that I could mouth-masturbate to this meal all week…” HA! That’s very, err, descriptive.

Yeah… that’s another thing. I live with someone who does not eat fruit or vegetables if he can help it.
