Andreas and I have been trying to work on our French. He may be fluent in German, but he doesn’t know any French, and as T. can tell you, my French is erm, creative.
In our efforts, we’re doing a little book and tape set. A lot of it is review for me, but I’m still forgetting things like how de la changes to du if it’s after a negative conjugation. Stuff like that tosses me everytime.
The most humorous aspect of this attempt to relearn French is my attempts to use it in everyday conversation. I can’t do this at work though, because it sounds overwhelmingly pretentious. (See this post for example.) So I do it around the house, saying things like “Ou est ma petite rat? Elle est un tres belle rat, mais je ne sais pas ou elle est! Mal rat! Ou est tu? Ma petit chou chou? Ecoute-tu moi?”
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

i forget that some people think French is pretentious. when i go to school, that’s my field, and i always start randomly entering French into daily conversation. most common for me: Quelle heure est-il? people have no idea what i’m asking.

get the pimselur cds from the library! they’re these big long cd sets where they have conversations you follow along with. instead of making stuff up, you can learn how to say really useful stuff like, “aimeriez-vous aller boire du vin?”
