My trip to Seattle was excellent, but I returned home to find Jaamini, one of our pet rets, deathly sick. She was pretty touch and go this morning (labored breathing and bristled fur), and I’m hoping she’s still alive when I get home.
A sick pet makes for a miserable welcome home.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

It drizzled, yup. And yup: the troll is still there, although like most Seattle landmarks, it’s relatively invisible to me.

Rat update: she was more alert and bright-eyed last night, but then in pretty bad shape again this morning.

Any idea what might be wrong with her? What does her vet say? I hope she pulls through…

Seems like a respitory infection, perhaps. Hard to say, and vets don’t treat rats unless it’s an external injury.

Vets don’t treat rats!? How awful!

About rats and vets. I should correct my answer above: many vets don’t treat rats. Some do.

UPDATE! After making some phone calls, I found a vet in Santa Monica who treats rats. We’re going to bring Jaamini in tonight and see if we can get her some antibiotics.

Rat update: Both Jaamini and Tejasa are now on pink antibiotics that supposedly taste like raspberries. Neither of them like them much, but Jaamini is way WAY better now. Yay! Healthy rats!
