I just got my sockets packed with clove oiled gauze today. I thought my jaw was breaking off.....I'm still skeptical as to having dry sockets, but I do feel relief. I had ear pain but it seemed to go away by massaging my jaw muscles and applying heat. I worked a whole day at work with no pain that way. But it came back last night, hence the gauze today.....

I also found this neat website: http://www.americasdentalbookstore.com/articles/OralSurgery/DrySocketPrevention.htm

I'm not a dentist, so I'm not really qualified to give you any advice. All I can tell you is that my dentist packed my dry sockets with clove-oil soaked tiny gauze strips, and it gave me immediate relief. Talk to your dentist!

I had my wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago and now have 2 dry sockets. I have had the holes packed once and dread having them repacked tomorrow becasue the pain was horrible. I was going to try the clove oil. Do you pack the holes with gauze soaked in the oil or just drop the oil in the holes? Also, would a heating pad help with the pain and the healing?

I got dry socket and boy oh boy it hurts more than anything I have ever experienced! I was taking about 12 ibuprofens a day with very minimal relief. Thank God for clove oil! I put three drops directly in the socket and within minutes I was virtually pain free. The taste is horrible but WORTH IT! Oh, and by the way, why didn't my oral surgeon warn me about the higher risk of dry socket while I'm in my first 3 weeks of birth control pills??? The bastard!
