The weird thing about working a full-time salaried job is that when you have a three-day weekend (like, say, this weekend) there’s this immense crushing pressure to DO SOMETHING — anything! You can’t let a free day off go to waste! You must go! Do! Travel! Hedonize!
I seriously considered driving up to the High Sierra Music Festival this weekend (Go! Do! Travel!), but 9 hours each way, plus $150 tickets, plus the inevitable holiday traffic coming home deterred me.
Yet now I’m left with the holiday guilt crushing down on me. The Rainier Beer jingle from 1988 runs through my mind…”we don’t waste a sunny day.” I start to panic. What will I DO? Are there parties? Picnics? Parades? WHAT WILL I DO!?
I hate feeling like my time is not my own.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

I feel the same - however - I think I may just sit on my ass, drink wine, and watch the fireworks on tv!

I go through the same thing, even on a regular weekend. I feel like I should be out doing something out of the ordinary.

I’m taking the opportunity to go to Montreal, where they are having a jazz festival. It was a last-minute decision, but my Sunday work has cut into all other three-days recently, so it was now or never. 6 hours each way and 25 CD’s of Jim Dale reading Harry Potter will be some kind of heaven.

Just got hired for a permanent job, and already I feel the way that you do. Must… not… flee… office…
[waiting impatiently for BM and my two weeks off.]
Heart you.

My bf and I spent the WHOLE day snuggling, eating and watching “The Beatles Anthology” on DVD. Close to 13 hours…it was divine.
