Have I mentioned that I’m going to Burning Man this year? I’m not sure I have. I attended Burning Man in 1999 and 2000, and kind of doubted I’d ever be back. Like any mind-altering experience, the event has valuable lessons to teach, but once you’ve learned the most obvious of them, you have to leery of just going back for the good times and not learning anything.
That said, I’m just going back for the good times.
I bought my ticket and a camelback yesterday, but other than that, I’m trying to stay far away from the consumer crunch that seems to drive the freaks of America into an almost Christmas-like retail frenzy most Augusts. I already have a cooler. I already have plenty of weird clothes (although I do think I need a fishnet body stocking). I already have a tent and ear plugs and enormous water containers and a lot of the other things one needs at Burning Man. I’m investing in some EL wire for night-hooping, and then that’s it. No really! I swear!
I’m heading out with a group of friends who seem to be taking the whole thing equally mellow. The only thing we know about where we’re staying is this: quiet, hopefully.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

you should stop by the Nomadic Nutria Hunters (at Dogma and Ridiculous) — . we’ll hook you up with some moisturizing nutria anus balm (for your lips, of course). or nutria jerky, if you eat meat. just look for the “Nutria Republic” flag and the silver tent!

Have fun!
While Burning Man isn’t really my type of thing, I have a friend who will be driving cross-country to work as part of the Medical Team for it. He’s excited about it. I’ll have to tell him to keep an eye out for you with your glowing hoop.

Did you actually order and receive your EL Wire yet? I’m curious to see some so I can put my “ideas” together…

As always, I’m kinda saddened by people’s Burning Man plans, as I’d like to go, but the combination of the distance between NJ and Nevada and the fact that Philly Folk Fest is always either the same week or right next to it make it impossible for me to go. I wish you a great experience, and don’t forget to bring the H20!! Enjoy…
