I’m trying to make the most of the awful state of political affairs in California today. For what it’s worth, I have fiercely maintained my registered Seattle voter status, so I had nothing to do with this madness. I haven’t ever liked California politics. I mailed in my Seattle absentee ballot last month, and cool things I voted for were passed.
But the current Californian situation is pretty ugly. That said, I’m trying to look at the positive side:
1. As I mentioned last year in this post, Arnold cannot follow in Reagan’s footsteps: since he was not born in America, he cannot run for President. Whew. Small victories, folks!
2. As I mentioned last year in this post, Arnold has experience with all sorts of degenerate behavior…pot smoking, orgies, etc. I’ve always thought it is stupid that politicians are expected to live some sort of chaste life, so I’ll take a tiny bit of satisfaction from the fact that Californians have said loud and clear: “We don’t care if Arnold has gotten baked and rocked out with his cock out.” (Let’s ignore the fact that Californians have also apparently said “We don’t care that he’s a woman-groper who hasn’t even served on so much as a school board or city council position — I saw his movies and they were, like, really fucking cool!” The point is that the republicans who bitched at Clinton now look like hypocrites, and I take small satisfaction in that.)
3. While I may not agree with the outcome of the election, it is sort of cool to see rogue democracy in action. Now, if only Tom Ammiano had been on the ballot!
That concludes any and all positivity on California state politics.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

If things get too crazy up there, you and Dre can come stay with me in Toledo, or wherever I go for my MFA next year. (Of course, one of the schools I was looking at was Antioch University Los Angeles; now I find myself reconsidering that …)

i wish i could find it online, but cnn mentioned the other day that there’s now legislation on the senate floor to allow immigrants that been citizens for 20+ years to run for president. they mentioned that arnold would be eligible to run for president by those standards.

Matt, until I see proof, I refuse to believe it. Not because I doubt you, but because to think of Arnie as prez necessitates filling out my Canadian Emigration paperwork, and I’m not quite ready to do that yet.

It’s a moderate pain in the ass, but doable.

James and I are planning our move to all things Northwest in a yet undetermined amount of time.
We feel the same awkward, impotent rage, boy, do we.

The amendment they’re trying to pass says that if you’ve lived as a US citizen for 20 years, the fact that you weren’t born here can’t prevent you from being president. Tricky language.

PS: From now on, he’s Arnold the Barbarionator. Or should it be Terminabarian?
