Damn it, I have been busy lately.
Numerous folks have told me that after reading my blog, they are under the incorrect assumption I lead some sort of exciting life. This is NOT normally the case — it takes a lot of time in front of the computer to make a life this quiet sound at all interesting. Most evenings in LA consisted of coming home from work, eating with Dre, and then pulling up a piece of gymball and tinkering away on my computer. This is not the stuff of adventure serials, folks. Sometimes Dre and I would watch a DVD or go have cocktails at friends’ houses, but typically it was lots of time at home. I like lots of time at home.
But not lately! I have been busy. Really busy. Maybe it’s because Seattle is smaller, so it’s less investment to go out for an evening. I never wanted to go out in LA because, when your destination is 45 minutes away, you better be DAMN sure you really want to be there, and after a few disappointments, it was hard for me to motivate. You can’t really just “swing by” in LA, unless you’re sticking to your neighborhood.
Seattle, meanwhile, is much more managable. The farthest neighborhoods are 20 minutes away, and that’s usually surface street driving, like the long road to Ballard, or the endless east-west corridor to Greenwood.
Regardless of the reason, I’ve been busy. BUSY! Monday night was the group hoop (total success!). Tuesday night was first Dad’s birthday dinner with he and my mother and Dre; then Andreas and I headed to Miss H’s Variety Show in Ballard (fun, as always). Last night I headed up to the illustrious scabby University District to see “Party Monster,” which I’ve been eagerly awaiting for almost a year. As my friend Owen said, “It was as bad as I was expecting, but not quite as good as I was hoping.” It was campy and almost so bad it was good, but pretty much it was just bad. Loved Seth Green, however.
Tonight it’s first to a meeting with my old Entros friends at Forrest-Pruzan (I’m doing some copy for a game they’re developing), and then off to a dinner meeting with Rachel from Red Ant. I guess she wants to have a line of hooping gear? Cool!
Saturday night is Antibalas, highly recommended by everyone everwhere. Question: is it pronounced “anti-balas”? Or “An-TI-balus”? Or something else?
Tomorrow night is free. I think I will probably do nothing, like the good ol’ days.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

a couple of my friends are in Antibalas. the white scruffy guy playing tenor sax is my friend Colin, and the white scruffy guy playing clarinet (usually, sometimes sax) is Stuart. both Ann Arborites.
i totally forgot they were playing here in SF on tuesday night, and instead we went to go see my friend’s boyfriend’s death metal band in oakland. i was really sad when i realized i had missed Antibalas for Cement Coffin.
