Andreas is leaving Los Angeles this afternoon. After some fits and starts (someone at U-haul claimed that there were no trailers in all of LA), he reports that the truck is packed and ready. The rats are riding bitch in the passenger seat, apparently very anxious and twitchily unhappy in their cage. Andreas is taking a shower at then making his escape. Let’s all think safe, happy driving thoughts for the poor thing. I’m doing all I can to crank up the pampering upon his arrival. I’ve already arranged for a 90 minute massage for him on Friday, and am scheming pedicures, six-packs of his favorite beverages, and a new pair of shoes (easy when your boyfriend is vegan because Pay-Less Shoe Source is the haut couture of non-leather shoes). All hail Andreas, Master of the Move.

He is SOOOOO going to love you for that!
He looked pretty beat upon his departure…but with that twinkle of optimism in his eye that recognizes the magic of new beginnings.
I am genuinely excited for you both - I predict good things around the corner to reward such amazing people.

UHaul are Satan. They do not tell you that to them, a “reservation” means “you get first dibs assuming we have a vehicle to rent.” My last move was delayed by 2 days because not only did they not have trucks in Minneapolis/St. Paul, they didn’t have trucks in Iowa, the Dakotas, Wisconsin, or Illinois. We half-considered having a friend who was coming to the area anyway rent a truck for us in St. Louis and tow her car up to Minneapolis so that we could get the hell out of there.

Good Luck to Andreas on the (long and boring if he’s taking I-5) drive, and I’m sure you’ll both be glad to be in the same city again. I just returned from a mere 5-day conference, and, while the moment of “Look! There he is!” at the airport was great, the previous days of missing T.H. were quite lame.
It sounds as though the move is shaping up to be a great thing!
