Salon.com Arts & Entertainment | Hall and Oates deemed ‘heroes’ of music

I laughed out loud when I saw this headline when I got up this morning. Heroes! Of music!

To commemorate the honoring, I’m listening to Hall & Oats on the ‘pod. I have a bit of trouble understand how this sappy (although admittedly catchy) tripe could make someone heroic, but whatever. Perhaps the Recording Academy has unique situations from which they need rescuing. “This music! It’s all so…HARSH! [someone puts on "Sara Smile."] Oh! I’m saved! MY HEROES!”

I’m reminded of when a friend in 8th grade said to me, “I love Hall & Oats…their lyrics are so intelligent.”

I asked what she meant, because even at 13, I didn’t find the lyrics to “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” all that intelligent.

“Well, they use words like ricochet,” my friend explained.

Regardless, I’m still wondering what “I Can’t Go For That” was about. It’s probably H&O’s funkiest song, and it’s shrouded in mystery!
