Saw Return of the King last night. Enjoyed it, but one comment:
Didn’t that ork commander who led the battles of Pellenor Fields totally look like Sloth from The Goonies? I kept wondering if it was a wink-wink nudge-nudge to Sean Astin.
PS: Best fawning yet still critical and funny review, from Salon:
But every time I see [Sauron's eye] — and you see it a lot in “The Return of the King” — I get bummed out. This wobbling, ectoplasmic searchlight-thingy is the Dark Lord himself, the embodiment of evil? OK, maybe it’s scary at first, but the more you see it scouring the landscape and doing exaggerated double takes, the more it becomes, well, scary-cute, in a Tom-staring-down the-mouse-hole in-search-of-Jerry way. What’s ol’ Saur going to do with the Ring if he ever gets it back? Balance it on top of his googly, eyeball-jelly head? “Blass-st you, wretched halfling! I have no fingersss!”

ariel, i saw it last week at a houghton mifflin screening and about 15 of us the next day had that exact same reaction!!! i kept saying “sloth….love….orcs…”.
every time sean astin was crying, i also said, “poor rudy…he’s always getting shafted.”

Definetly a Sloth sighting…but to comment on Salon, if she would’ve payed attention in the first movie, once Sauron has control of the One Ring, he would take form. Stated in another Tolkien book referring to this, Sauron would actually take control of the body of the ring-bearer i.e. Frodo. Okay, I’m going to stop now because I sound like some amazing super geek.

okay, i know I`m being a huge nerd here but…it wasn`t sloth. It was an homage to the charming “Bastard” aliens from Peter Jackson`s first camp movie BAD TASTE.
