I know I’ve mentioned them before, but I was finally able to get ahold of a Signal Path CD, and dear god! Lemme put it this way: Signal Path is the best thing to come out of Missoula, Montana since my dearest Andreas left the city in 1994. And we all know how much I like Andreas.

Signal Path 2003, their new album which I just ordered from Ear Candy Music in Missoula but which is also available online, is an intoxifying blend of spacy electronica and funky as hell live instrumentation. Stick LTJ Bukem’s “Earth” album in a blender with “Picture of Nectar”-era Phish, take away the vocals, and you get something approaching the beauty and sublimity (?) of Signal Path. Total heaven. Maybe it just rubs me the right way because it combines two sides of my personality so perfectly (like stick of nag champa propped up in the crack of a brand new laptop), but it’s heaven to my ears.

I’d post some mp3s, but these guys ain’t Britney Spears, and I’m sure they need all the support they can get. You can listen to samples over here.
