Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
Yesterday I had an interview with one of Seattle’s biggest technical communications agencies. They’re enormous, and one of the primary staffing vendors for Microsoft, so many of their jobs are in Redmond, which is a 30-60 minute commute from Seattle.
On a whim, at the end of my interview I mentioned that I would like part time work. I mean, unless I was working for a dream company (think: REI), part time is really perfect for me. Plenty of time to work on my own projects and creative endeavors (book, Warmies, freelance work) but a stable income. I figured it was just a pipe dream to mention part time work, but the agent got all excited and said that part time jobs are always the hardest to fill because no one wants them (?!). She was very excited to hear that I was interested in working 20 hours a week. Rock!
And now I must go to the post office to mail off used books I sold through Amazon, and a batch of Warmies.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, is in bookstores now.

Hey! I stumbled upon your site awhile back (through LittleYellowDifferent - the 2nd Generation story - I’m right there with you on that one) and just bought some warmies! I keep seeing them on here and have fallen more and more in love w/ them, so today I took the plunge. I’m so excited!
Good luck w/ the job! Blue skies.

Is that Volt? I didn’t know that about part-time being easier to find. I’ve been thinking the same thing about part-time being better, as long as I can get better money per hour than I’m getting now.
Hmmm.

Not Volt. S&T.
She didn’t say that it was easier, just that nobody else seemed to want those jobs…so that when they came up, it would be a smaller pool of applicants to compete with.
