Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
Despite finding the woman herself irritating (and unskilled) beyond belief, I actually really like a couple tracks off Britney Spears’ new album. “Toxic” is one of them. It’s a great ode to alcoholism.
Unfortunatley, the video is a muddled mess. It’s equal parts “Fifth Element” (Gaultier flight attendants, anyone?) and Shania Twain’s “Getcha Good,” or whatever the hell that video with everyone’s favorite canadian country-bot on a motorcycle was called. In “Toxic,” Britney appears to be a secret agent of some sort, and by that I mean the sort who joins the 30k club with aging business men, only to rip off the man’s face to find that he’s ACTUALLY HOT!
Here’s how we weigh-in on the video at our house:
Andreas: I didn’t get it.
Me: I liked the wigs, though!

Thanks for sharing. Do you really think that it’s just about alcohol? I got the impression that it was more about addiction in general. Addiction to lust, addiction to anything.

I think a mess is a fairly good description. Am I the only one who thought the black wig was biting X-tina a little too much? (despite the use of “biting” and “X-tina” I swear I’m not 12)

I thought that Britney with flaming red hair annoys me and fascinates me.

Good observations, and I think you are close in your estimation (especially the Fifth Element comparison). I don’t know what’s going on with Britney’s videos recently (especially the animated one). I guess she’s just branching into some strange new direction.
