As much as I love dr2.net, I’m a little concerned about using them as my primary email provider. Since dr2’s hosting is so inexpensive, spammers host their domains with them, and send out torrents of mail. The result? The server that my email is sent from gets blacklisted as a spam server and messages I send get bounced back to me or shuffled into people’s spam/bulk folders. I’ve been having that “email disappearing into the ether” feeling an awful lot, lately.
Moral of the story: Check your bulk folder. You might find email from me. If you’re really neurotic, you could set up a filter so that mail sent from ariel at this domain dot com goes into your inbox.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

I worry about this too. I may have to go back to using my yahoo address for important mail… although it hasn’t actually been a problem in the past couple of weeks.

Ugh. I haven’t had anything bounce, but (like everyone) I don’t receive quick responses to all the emails I send.
I never visit the dr2 forums, but I just did now; Thanks for holding their feet to the fire, Ariel. If they don’t get un-blacklisted, then they can’t be used with confidence.

The businessmen (hah!) who use these tactics should be isolated and destroyed. If you’re reading this and you’re in marketing, telemarketing, or any marketing that sends me unwanted mail - electronic or actual - please consider drinking all of the cleaning products under your kitchen sink when you get home tonight. You worthless sell-out scamming insectile husk of a human being. Die and do not procreate.
Ahem.

Psst, Randal: watch it when you go hating everyone who does marketing. I’m a copywriter!

Pshaw my dear woman - you’re no spammer.
Seriously, no offenth meant Ariel. I just have tissues with the Glenn-Gary types.

If you’re looking for another web host recommendation, I really like dreamhost (www.dreamhost.com). I’ve been using them for about 3 years and the features of my plan keeping getting better (more disk space, domains, etc.) while the price has stayed the same.

Oops - forgot to add that dreamhost doesn’t tolerate spammers - so I haven’t had any issues being blocked. They even have some good server-side spam blocking software (Vipul’s razor, I think).
