Ok, a product placement line has just been crossed. I love me some cheezy crap commercialized pap, but I have my limits. When a McDonald’s jingle is also a top-40 single, ala my beloved Justin Timberlake’s “I’m Lovin’ It,” I refuse to buy in. I won’t download the tune, I’ll only watch the vid once (typical “boy chases elusive girl through city” shit), and I’ll grumble when it comes on the air.
Then I heard this Nelly song that features JT. I sort of like the role reversal — no more Aaliyah or Ashanti or A’whoever doing over melismatic hook-crooning, no sir! JT has come to play the part of booty shaking chorus girl, and he does it well.
That is, until minute 3:06 of the song, when Nelly says, “I can hear them horns playing,” and JT proceeds to scat the fucking McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle.
Did Nelly get paid to let Justin sing the McDonald’s jingle? And doesn’t JT realize that all that this seriously negates some of that street cred he worked his ass of last year to acheive?

Street cred? In the music world? You know what street cred in the music world REALLY is - lots of money, and lots of flashy things bought WITH money. There IS no other street cred anymore.

Not usually one to point this out but eh-hem *clears throat* I think the term “sell-out” comes to mind *shrugs*. I mean JT’s joy in those ads are because what…? They’ll air in more countries than his records have made it to? yuk! Talented, perhaps, but sell-out nevertheless.

What is it with the “I love me some” expression? I’ve heard more than a few West-Coasters say it recently, but no one out here has picked it up. Is it from a show? Just a phenomenon?

Yeah, because Nelly is such a legit Hip-Hop “artist”. Nelly is like generic margerine in the world of rap. I’m sure Nelly got a huge stack of $$$$ (perhaps he bought more bandaids for his face with it) and JT got a stack of $$$$ and really, that’s all that matters in the world of music.
