My right wrist hurts in this sort of “pinched nerve” kind of way. Is this Don Henley’s The End Of The Innocence for my mouse-hand?

Hey there,
Yes, that sounds like the onset of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. My wrist started hurting two months ago so I’m practicing my skills at ambidexterity, flipping my mouse to the left - a little awkward at first, but you’ll be a pro in no time!
Take care and remember to stretch!

do you have one of those mousepads with the gel-bump at the bottom? If not, consider one… they support your wrist and I found it helped me a lot.

Are you using a normal type keyboard, as opposed to a laptop? I always get mad carpal tunnel on those, but my typing style on my own laptop is two-fingered, from above, hence no probs. And 70wpm too. Ah well, if it’s any consolation that’s probably proof you’ve been writing enough. Just don’t let them amputate your hands.

It’s funny that you say that because there’s an article that says March 3rd is the day that you’re most likely to break your wrist. http://www.aftenposten.no/engl.....eID=744437

i switched my mouse to the left side a few months ago, and not only did it help my right wrist, now that i’m using the other side of my brain more often, i swear that my mental alignment has shifted a bit too!!

I actually heard that those wrist-supporting pads can make things worse (something about your wrist now bending down instead of up).
Either way, perhaps you can do some pretentious dictating for a while. Pacing around the house at high-speed while sipping brandy completes the fantasy…

I have been reading your blog for months and have not commented. I guess this is my coming out. I have one of those wrist-supporting mousepads (and keyboard pads) and it has made a world of difference. I would also invest in a trackball mouse. They rock.

This kind of reminds me of the FedEx commercial where they are all “doomed”…Is this Don Henley’s The End of Innocence for Ariel? Is she….DOOMED!?? doomed! doomed!!!

three years ago i started to feel the onset of carpal tunnel (the wrist pinching feeling you’re experiencing).
first thing i did was go to a carpal tunnel “specialist” who was actually just a surgeon. his response was to come back when it really hurt and then he could talk options (i.e. surgery).
so then i went to an acupuncurist and, to be quiet honest, it did relieve the pinching. i’ve read debates where people feel that acupuncture doesn’t “heal” the carpal tunnel as much as it simply deadens the nerves, but all i know is it went away.
i still get pinching occasionally, but now i practice some hand yoga to relieve the stress.
