Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
I missed Seattle the most last spring, when I was in LA and it was already 75° and it started getting warmer and the air got milkier and bleah. I desperately missed Seattle’s frenetic springtime energy. Things are greener than you’ve ever seen, and the mole-like pasty-pale inhabitants are practically running down the street naked with glee.
I spent all afternoon today at what one longtime Capitol Hill resident calls “Gay Boy Lawn” at Volunteer Park. I love that lawn. It’s one of my favorite places to be when it’s sunny.
Today there were two Frisbee games, one badminton tourney, a capoeira group, an African dance crew, a dude with a bubble-blowing gun who was either high on acid or just sunshine (hard to tell the difference with Seattleites), one gymnast doing back flips, and one hooper (me).
I spent some time with a two-year-old who was cuter than cute. We played with my hoop together, and blew bubbles together, and when she grew enamored with the plastic flowers clipped in my hair, I took them off and clipped them in her hair instead. Her parents and I couldn’t stop cooing (SO CUTE!) and this little girl got so excited by it that she started doing this little boogie-dance that conveyed very clearly, “They think I’m cute! I am loved! Because I’m so cute! I’m so happy! I must boogie!” I think a trickle of blood dribbled out of my nose from my uterus straining so hard. BABY CRACK NO! GO ‘WAY! NOT YET!
Oh, and here’s my Blik Flok.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, is in bookstores now.

ah, yes - parks full of freaks in sprintime. would would any west coast city be without them? i’m sure seattle is awesome, but you missed the all popular Hunky Jesus contest in Dolores Park on SF, followed by the Easter Drag Queen show. you really can’t beat that for a pagan easter celebration, i don’t think.
