Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
My friends the Bay Area Hoopers have been profiled (and I’ve been quoted) in an article in the San Francisco Chronicle: HOOPING IT UP.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

Yeah, we were saying today that you’re the most quotable hooper we know!

damn, i actually *remember* seeing the photos the day someone handed Philo a hoop at that girl’s party… and here he is a total pro now.
i still haven’t picked up a hoop - the only hoopers in new york are hippies, it appears, and they all wanna get together in central park (i’m in brooklyn next to two huge, beautiful parks, and can’t figure out why i’d wanna trek all the way up there)…

…I was that someone who handed Philo a hoop! It was at Min Jung’s 2003 blogger birthday party…Bay Area Hoopers were born the next day. Here are Vera’s pictures from that fateful night.
And as for NYC, on tribe.net’s hooping tribe, I think I just saw a brooklynite post looking for other hoopers? You might want to check.
And Vera? Having worked for a magazine all those years means I’ve gotten frighteningly good at speaking in soundbites. I know the sort of pull-quotes that are helpful for journalists, and it’s hard for me not to speak in them, sometimes. I SCARE ME!
