Actually, for many french people the 35h work week law resulted in more holidays rather in really shorter days or weeks of work. (And when your company choose to actually decrease the work week, rather than increase the holidays, it usualy doesn't cut the amount of work to do...) The law set a maximum of work time per year and a maximum of 39h a week. Your boss may ask you to work more than that, but has to pay you (with a bonus) the extra time.

All this, of course, for salaried workers only.</description>
