Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
Today I my hair is being dyed in the comfort of my own home. I am terrified, but I’ve learned more than I ever knew I needed to know about picking a dye color. If you’re lightening, you need to go for a cool, ashy tone. If you’re darkening, you need to go for something with a warm, golden tone. Isn’t this facinating? I’ve got a lot of notes, iff’n you’re interested.
Thursday I have a phone conference with my literary agent and her boss, the head of the agency. I think we’re going to be talking about what comes next with my book proposal. Eep!
Update
The hair color project went well, and I cranked out a 2000 word article in 4 hours. I’ll post before and after shots when I get them from the photographer.

Also today, a friend who has lost the ability to take care of herself is being collected and taken home by her parents. That is sad, but less sad than something like this happening. Being a grown up is weird.

Good luck with your hair and your agent! I’m really enjoying your blog. I am just starting to do some freelance writing and I can live vicariously through your success!
I think it’s great that you have an agent and will be writing a book. It’s always been a dream of mine!
And about your hair, you are right about using cooler shades when you lighten it, if you are lightening from a darker base. This will eliminate orange tones as much as possible.

Kate: I wish I could say I got an agent through hard work and diligent pursuit, but instead it’s more of the usual…connections. My agent is a former classmate of mine from Columbia Publishing Course.

Why are you terrified (in italics) of dying your hair? Sheesh! It’s just hair.

It’s not just hair — IT’S MY HAIR!
