After upgrading to MT3.0, I’ve found that mt-blacklist doesn’t work. MT3 does make it easier to delete comment spam when it floods in (15+ this morning), but until I get TypeKey set up, MT3 doesn’t seem to do much to STOP the comment spam…and with mt-blacklist broken, I feel a little vulnerable.
So, be watching for new commenting protocols. I love my comments and commenters, so I don’t want to make it harder for y’all to leave feedback to posts….but comment spam makes it sorta necessary.
Update
TypeKey comment-authentication enabled! I’ll test this out a few different ways, but for now I have my site configured to automatically accept all comments from TypeKey-registered users (it’s easy to sign up! I hope you’ll each take half a second to register today!). Comments from unregistered users won’t appear on the site until they are approved by me. I’m already feeling drunk with the power of control!

Just out of curiosity Ariel, do you get more spam from Email or from comments? I got a lot of comment spam when I started blogging (mostly other people attempting to promote communities) and so I just disabled my comments after awhile. And it`s turned down a large number of the trolls and spammers. I find that most people with constructive things to say, will take the time to email you and leave a message (positive or not).

To be honest, I don’t get much spam. I change my email address periodically, and forward mail sent to old addies to a central spam-catching address that is heavily filtered and checked less frequently.
As for comment spam, until I upgraded to mt3.0, mt-blacklist was doing a great job of ensuring that all my comments were comments, not spam.
My comments are really valuable to me, though. I love it when people provide links or feedback that publically adds to the post.

Doesn’t the D in 3.0D means it’s mainly for the developers, like the mt-blacklist pluginmakers, so they can get ready for the main release? I’m sure they’re working overtime on it, but in the meantime, I guess you get to experience the downside of being an early adopter….

Oh I feel the same way about valuing comments. And I know that by knocking off the comment board I do turn down the level of communication between my ‘webpage’ audience and myself.
I really don`t want too do that, but then again, I also run a mailing list for my work and that tends to get better and more interesting critical responses for me anyways. Who knows? Maybe it`s just me, or maybe it`s the nature of the medium? Mail being… MAIL, while some webpages (my own included) are almost impersonal. Because some of the time to the people who download it or to the people who read it and run? Writing and art on the net is just so easy and readily available that it may almost seem detached from the artist itself or the webpage. Does that make sense?
I always feel bad when I go around on the net and see good art or good writing and don`t leave a comment. (PS: You`re a very good writer and I like your work, and if I`ve never said it before, I`m a cad and I apologize wholeheartedly).
And consequently while I visit many blogs I only like to comment or leave comments on certain one with a more ‘friendly’ or almost ‘personal’ atmosphere. Yours is always open and easy going which I like. Yeah, definitely some weirdness with TypeKey…for instance, non-TypeKey registered user comments are still displaying without approval.

BTW - weirdness after logging in via Typekey - it refreshed Electrolicious to an april archive.
Okay, so logging in via Typekey doesn’t autofill the ‘name’ spot? Or the email spot? And they’re still required to post? Irritation.

Tumbleweed, it’s only not displaying because Jennifer (who’s helping me install the new commenting features) is fiddling with that. TypeKey standard is NOT to have to fill that info in again.
