I forgot to mention a book I’ve been devouring: A Wizard Of Earthsea, by Ursula K. LeGuin. Andreas and I have been reading it aloud to each other. Despite it being a classic, I’ve never actually read it: my father read it to me in the early ’80s. I’m not as fond of LeGuin’s attempts at archaic-styled language as I was back then…some of it feels stilted and distant from the characters. That said, still a great story and I’m looking forward to reading book two of the trilogy (The Tombs of Atuan), which I was totally enraptured by 20 years ago.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

hey ariel! glad to see you are reading Wizard of Earthsea. I have the honor of spearheading a new, possibly illustrated hardcover version at work (I’m no longer at Candlewick, but at Houghton). If you have any suggestions for illustrators, I’d love to hear them! Hope all is well (it sure sounds like it — congrats on the engagement :)! )

Whee! Comments are open!
I’m not sure if you know, so I thought I’d mention it’s no longer a trilogy. She published a fourth book, Tehanu (foolishly subtitled the “Last Book of Earthsea”), in 1990, and then in 2001 she published a collection of 5 stories called Tales From Earthsea and another novel called The Other Wind. It was interesting to see how her conception of Earthsea had changed. She addresses some new themes and also takes a different view of themes from the original trilogy.

There will probably be a third reading when you read Earthsea back to me as I enter my second childhood!

Also, Sci-Fi is showing a EarthSea Mini-series in December.
Even though you don’t watch much TV.
