This morning I made a run to the local state-run liquor store. That’s how it’s done here in Washington: you can only buy liquor from the state, and their stores are only open Mon - Sat, 9am to 8pm, and close on holidays. So if I want vodka at my barbecue on Monday, I had to go get it this morning. Washington: state of drunks with foresight!
At the liquor store, not only did I see this lovely sign forebaiding any “aimless ‘hanging out’” as well as “the public elimination of bodily fluids.” Yum! I also was forced to listen to a warbling showtune version of “Proud to be an American.” Proud to be an American, where at least I know I can buy my cheap vodka on a Saturday morning and not aimlessly “hang out.” Amen.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

Hmm. The picture isn’t showing up. Just a head’s up. We have almost the same law in louisiana, except it’s no liquor only beer on sunday’s..what’s the point of that? it’s still alcohol, and you can buy liquor the day before so what is it preventing? It’s not, however, the same for holidays. Oh, and definitely not only until 8.
