I realize that Electrolicious has been primarily a sort of impersonal journal lately (less essays and links; more personal musings and photos), but there are some stict logistics I’ve failed to mention:
1. Dre and I leave for our honeymoon this Thursday.
We will be gone for almost a month, and will be spending only some of our time working the grape harvest in Bandol. The advantage of being unsure if/how we’ll be getting paid for our work is that we won’t be tied to the fields. We’re planning a getaway to Spain, swinging through Barcelona before going to Madrid to stay with Javier, an internationally infamous friend of a friend.
2. When we return, things are up in the air.
The joy/pain of contracting for The Paper is that they are never ever able commit to how long contractors are needed. I’ve been working a supposedly-two week contract since March. My attempts to learn whether or not I’d be needed in October were thwarted. There could be work, or it could be like January where I come back from a vacation and get laid off. Therefore, I’ve been pursuing a gig with these folks. I had a great interview with them last week and supposedly they’ll be getting back to me this week. Just to make things more exciting, Andreas will be making the transition from freelance to full-time work in October. Leads are always welcome.
3. Andreas and I are starting to think real estate.
Yesterday we had the very grown up experience of going to the bank and putting some wedding gift money into a six-month CD, during which time we will earn enough interest to take ourselves out to dinner. We’ll probably start seriously looking for a home late this winter. At this point, we’re leaning more towards a small house than a condo, but who knows! Naturally, this #3 is partially dependent on #2.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

i’m teeming with jealousy over here! i’ve been trying to decide … when am i going to quit my job and give up everything and travel around the world? do i have to get married first in order to get that oh-so-helpful wad of cash from the friends and family? i’m thinking i might have to wait until i’m 30. the big 3-0 sounds like an auspicious time to turn my life upside down again. good luck!!!!
