Getting into travel prepatory mode. After years of using cheap sleepy blinders both at home and while travelling, I finally invested in a really wonderful eye mask. I also invested in a Bucky pillow, travel toothbrush, toiletries bag, and a plug converter for my iPod charger and laptop.
We’re also dealing with some exciting travel plans. First realization: we fly from Seattle > DC > Frankfurt. Then we have a nine hour layover in Frankfurt before hopping a short flight to Marseille. Andreas is excited to use his German, and at least the layover is long enough that we can go get lunch in town.
Then our Spain trip is potentially expanding to a trip that goes like this: Marseille > Barcelona (1 night stay) > Madrid (2 night stay with Javier) > Paris (2 night stay with Nate-Dog?). Woohoo! Then we will probably go back to Avignon to hang out with T. in her new home…which has a pool! I think I’m going to get some honeymoon pool time after all. MAIS OUI!

Ariel, my boyfriend loves his sleepy mask. what is so great about the Bucky Shades? Maybe they’d make a good birthday gift

The bucky shades are extra cool because:
1. They have extra padding around the edges to ensure that NO LIGHT GETS IN. Seriously: these are 100% black-out shades. Also, the padding around the edges means that there’s no pressure on your eyes.
2. They include a special stash pocket pocket for your earplugs — which are included!
The downside: They cost $25.

Barcelona is one of the raddest cities ever. It is so much cooler than Madrid (or Mahdrit, if you are from there). Don’t plan on sleeping while you are there. Make sure you check out the Barrio Gotico (right of the Ramblas. Kill 2 birds with one stone. Just start out at the Christoper Columbus statue and walk up the Ramblas). The cathedral in Barcelona puts most other Gothic architecture to shame. Since your time is so short, you really don’t need to go into the Sagrada Familia. Def. see it and walk around it, but going into it isn’t that exciting. For your Gaudi fill, def. check out Parque Guell and his block on the Diagonal. Look really closely at his apts. on the Diagonal. Their doors might be ajar. Def. go in and check out the interiors if they are. Also, notice how Gaudi designed everything around his buildings (lampposts, benches, etc.). If you are tempted to go to the science museum, everything in the museum is in Catalan. Bonbons are the greatest coffee invention ever .
