I’m so busy these days that even when I don’t have time to take on freelance projects, I take them on anyway because, well, it’s fun work and even though I don’t really have any time to do it, I want to anyway. Cuz it’s fun. Did you hear me? Sometimes I think of working as “fun.”
Just like getting up at 6am for yoga class is fun. I’m reminded of this one time in a warehouse in 1996 when I lost a couple hours of my night and I had to walk around the next morning asking my friends, “Did you see me between about 4am and 6am?” (Side note: Thank god that only happened one time. I am too much of a control freak for blackouts, my friends.) Except for right now I’m thinking I’ve secretly been kidnapped and this full-time workin’, yoga attending, freelance cracking, Bizzy McBizzerson has been left in my place. Did you see me between 6am and 8am this morning? Normally I’m sleeping and drinking tea in a bathrobe, but someone says they saw me out and about! Exercising. So weird.
Oh wait: I can still spend a full hour shuffling around my house quietly chatting with myself and puttering from half-finished project to half finished project, never getting anything done. Whew. The sink is full of unwashed dishes. I’m still here.
That said, gadzooks have I been busy. I like staying busy this time of year. It’s all too easy to let inertia take over when the sun sets at 4:30pm, and when I freelance in the dead of winter, I tend to sleep until 10am and change my clothing weekly instead of daily. It’s a nice mellow form of depression, but it’s still not especially good for me. I like staying busy during the winter. It’s a good time for working full time and going to a lot of parties.

i took some of your advice (i turned down the job) and instead plastered my resume all over craigslist saying “WILL WRITE/EDIT FOR FREE” and so far 2 people have resonded, with semi-interesting projects. i need to keep myself motivated to do more work (i already have 2 jobs…) so i can plow forward. you ARE an inspiration to me, i hope you know!
