I once lived in a dorm with a bunch of 18-year-old guys who decided that flushing the toilet was doing a favor to the next guy to go in there, and that it was a waste of time by virtue of being completely selfless. Within days, the whole place stunk, but we were all just so smug and convinced we were brilliant. Hmmm.
