Since 1) The lead singer of Scissor Sisters is from Seattle, and 2) he moved to New York in 1999, and 3) The “Return to Oz” lyrics make reference to “Emerald City” … then 4) “Return to Oz” is actually a song about the late-’90s Seattle rave scene getting eaten by methamphetamine. Fascinating!

i think the “what one was the emerald city is now a crystal town” gave that away for me the first time i heard it. their perfomance on SNL was pretty decent - they needed about 4 more vocal tracks though. or some backup singers or something.
