news: Big news… Six Apart and LiveJournal! (Thanks, Anil!)
I’m fascinated by the responses to this news. LJ folks seem unanimously angry, scared, etc. MT folks seem relatively non-plussed. Maybe this is the difference between hosted and non-hosted offerings. Since I host MT on my own server, I don’t have much fear about the service — it’s under my control. But since LJ users keep their writing on LJ’s servers, perhaps there’s a sense of vulnerability and ownership over the application.

I agree. Someone wrote yesterday, “big news for MT users!” and I was all, “good for them, but um, why is this big news for me?” I also think it’s funny that some people who switched away from MT during the whole MT 3.0 debacle are saying things like, “haha, we told you, suckers! MT is really going to blow now!” as if MT is some centralized server like LJ. I feel like you do - it’s on my server, under my control, etc. I could use MT for as long as I like as is, you know? (I still use MT 2.something, although I do plan on going to 3.0 at some point if they offer unlimited users/blogs for less than $99.95, which IMHO, is waaaay too much for a personal liscence, and more than I’m willing to spend right now.)

Well, it’s not quite unanimous. Only one other person on my 70 person friends list is at all upset.
