Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
We just made our first bid on a house. I don’t think we’ll get it (in the hour or so it took us to bid, three other bids came in) but it was good practice.
Update: As predicted, we did not get the house. Despite our bid $10k over the asking price, our agent reported that it sold for “significantly higher.” Welcome to Seattle’s real estate market!

LOL! I just posted the *exact* same entry with the *exact* same title (Gulp!) about a week ago!
In our case, they did accept our bid, we signed the P & S last thursday, and close at the end of the month. We did mortgage stuff the other day - and man, THAT is a GULP!

Oooh, very cute. I briefly lived about 6 blocks from there, on S. Redwing, and the proximity to Seward Park was a total plus. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Out of curiosity, do you & Andreas have a decent amt of savings to put towards a home, or are you planning to use the FHA/VHA type of loans that require little to no $$$ down? Chris & I are *just* at the beginning stages of home-purchase discussion, and I figured you guys were probably in a similar boat as us.

Thanks to wedding gifts, we have about $25k to put down. I thought this was a HUGE amount of money, until I realized that in Seattle it’s really only about 5% of most of the houses we’re looking at.

Sorry you didn’t get it. The very concept of buyers bidding over houses above the asking price is completely foreign to me. Where we live, you generally get a house for about 10% off the asking price. That, and our houses cost less than half what they do where you are. I guess not *everything* about the deep south sucks.

It’s not always just about the money. I lucked out with my house because, out of the multiple bidders, I was the most flexible about the move-in date. Whatever the case househunting can be a stressful process. Good luck!
