House Bid #2

We just bid on another house. I think we could actually get this one, but I’m not totally sure. It’s awfully far south (Rainier Beach bordering on Skyway, people. SKYWAY!), but right on an express bus line, so only 30 a minute door-to-door commute, which is actually less than I have now. Plus, only a 10 minute drive from awesome Columbia City and its farmer’s markets and cool people stuff. But reality is sinking in: walk to six grocery stores and everything else lifestyle? Perhaps we will meet again some day. sniffle

Funny, since I’m lamenting the transition from 2 minute car drives to Target and 20 minute drives to work BACK to the 2 hour train ride to Manhattan.

(Ok… I’m not lamenting it THAT much!)

PS… you know, when you’re blurry… you look a little like Angelina Jolie!

Hey Ariel,

It’s been awhile since the reunion almost two years ago now. I get onto your website once in a blue moon to see how things are going with fellow classmates. I noticed that you are looking at homes down south.

My husband, Eric, and I actually live right off of Rainier Ave So. about a mile/mile and a half north of the Renton Municipal Airport. I can sympathize with your situation. I used to live in Phinney Ridge (walking everywhere) before we moved to this location. It is actually not as bad as you think. The area is really becoming more gentrified (sp?) and Columbia City is very close.

Anyway, if you move to the area, let me know and you’ll have a neighbor from way back.

I hope this works out for you both. Buying your first house is a great thing!!

Maybe it’s the child in me, but the first thing I noticed about the house was the sloped driveway and thinking, “man, that’d be cool to skate/bike down.” Your kids, should you have any (no pressure here), will love it.

Re feeling far away.. i bet the outward spread of the city center will eventually overtake your neighborhood one day. If Seattle grows to be more like LA, you’ll prolly feel right in the center of things! :p
