Today was our inspection at the house. Want to peek inside? Here you go! Other than some little things, the only real issue was an oil furnace that either needs to be serviced or replaced. We’ll negotiate that out.
After spending some more hours in Rainier Beach today, I really appreciate even more the diversity of the neighborhood (25% white, 35% black, 25% asian, 15% latino, native american, etc). This is not what’s thought of as the norm in Seattle, known for being one of those super liberal/lily white cities (think Portland, Boulder, Madison). It was nice to go to the grocery store (yes, a five minute drive away) and see black families fresh from church, asian teenagers, moneyed old white lake-fronters, and a latina pulling espresso shots. Seattle isn’t as white as I thought, and now I’m sort of embarassed for thinking it was. Read this article for more information.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

the backyard is lovely. as soon as i saw the picture i said “the hammocks going there”, and then read your note. and it’s a good thing that everything’s white/bland — gives you plenty to work with easily!
& the shot of Bud’s house had me cracking up.

Looks fabulous. You must leave the basement bathroom as is–it’s truly remarkable. And you have raised beds! Lucky dog, you.

We live in the ‘hood of our town. We LOVE our house. It is very us. Yes, we are some of the only white people/ owners-not-renters in our area, but hey. So what? Recently though, after the kid came into our lives, I am feeling a bit less cavalier about the whole thing. Who will he play with? I mean renters just move in and out so fast….
