Comcast pulled that same shit with me. After a day of digging through boxes (we'd moved out of state) I found the receipt I needed as proof that I really did return the modem.

It took them three more months to get it figured out. Comcast sucks like an Electrolux. So does Bank of America.

I'm done. That felt good.

Seems like this "pay us a fortune" and we'll maybe just perhaps consider providing you a service is par for the course - sucks doesn't it

My friends the Saccos (who left a comment in your new house photo album on Flickr, welcoming you to the neighborhood) have told me that Speakeasy told them they *could* get DSL, if they were willing to spend something absurd like $100 a month to get it extended to their house. I don't know the exact details but supposedly it was possible, just too expensive for them alone, and they didn't expect any of their immediate neighbors would be interested, which would have brought down the price.

They haven't signed up to Comcast either, for the same reason you mention - they're not interested in the cable TV service and Comcast overcharges for internet-only.

They don't offer service in our area either. That was the first thing we checked, since Dre's working there.
