In a concerted effort to ignore last minute homebuying stress, I’m going to focus on my birthday instead:
My 30th birthday is in less than a month. I’ve been thinking a lot about it, not in a scary way (I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished in these 30 years, and am excited for what I might do with the ones that remain) but just in a recognizing it way. I’ll be collecting my thoughts into something cohesive at some point.
I’ve also been thinking about what I want to do for my birthday. I haven’t had a debaucherous birthday in years (I’ve spent 4 of the last 5 birthdays in France), so I knew I wanted to do something sort of quiet … but it needed to be important and memorable. I’m thinking a little housewarming barbecue on Sunday the 15th, and then taking a day off from work for my birthday itself. I want to spent the day alone, doing something special for myself, so I think I’m going to go get soaked and scrubbed at the Olympus Spa. By myself. I’ve been reading about it and wow: seems like the perfect way to shed some old skin and step into my 30s nice and fresh. The next weekend we’re tentatively planning an overnight kayaking trip to Blake Island with another friend who’s turning 30. Kayaking trips and day spas. My goodness.
Oh, and some of you may have noticed the little greedy addition to my menu over there on the right. Oh yes. I may be turning 30, but I still loves me some prezzies.

Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

given that I am a male, I myself have never been to the (women-only) Olympus Spa. However, my girlfriend, her mom, sister, friends, basically every female in my life makes the trek down from Seattle at least twice a year and comes back gushing over how wonderful it was. if it wasn’t all nudey, I’d throw on a wig and check it out myself. definitely recommended for your birthday treat.

I turned 30 in September, and I love it. I love being out of my twenties, I love telling people I’m 30 when they ask how old I am, I love acting the elder stateswoman with my friends still in their twenties (oh, when you hit your 30’s this will feel totally different, trust me). Mark it, shed it, feel it, and move into a really good decade.
