Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
This weekend was so busy that I went 56 hours without getting on the Interweb. (I know, right?!) I’ll spare you the list of all that was accomplished, but basically every waking minute of this weekend was spent finishing the last of the move, cleaning the old apartment, unpacking, stocking up, gardening, and more unpacking. Andreas cleaned the gutters, reclaimed the gardening boxes, and planted both veggies and herbs.
I made a crisp from the rhubarb growing in our backyard. And I was up at 6:30 Sunday morning to make little May Day “baskets” (i.e. constuction paper cones hanging on curled ribbon) to anonymously hang on our neighbors’ doorknobs.
We’re eating shit and getting Comcast broadband installed tomorrow. And our new fancy-shmancy super energy efficient washer and dryer. Life is a pain without the Internet. I had to (GET THIS!) use the Yellow Pages several times this weekend. I had no weather report, no bus schedule, and no idea what was going on in the world. I’m eager to return to my paperless existance where information is at the tip of my fingertips. That said, I probably should take this as a lesson and continue to spend less time online.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, is in bookstores now.

Ha! I *hate* Comcast as well and feel your pain. My boyfriend switched us to Verizon DSL because we were getting such poor speeds with Comcast and Verizon was promising 3 mbp/s with a new promo- turns out Verizon’s servers weren’t handling the overload very well and our speeds originally were WORSE than Comcast. ACK! And now we’re using DSL, which in my eyes is like turning back towards the stone age. Finally, after about 10 calls to Verizon and AT LEAST 3 technician visits, we’re at about 1.5-2 mbp/s which is at least a slight improvement over Comcast.
We also switched to DirectTV from Comcast (mostly for Sunday ticket come football season), but in total we’re saving $40/month btw cable & internet AND we’ve ditched Comcast! YAYYYYYYY.
Sorry to hear you can’t get DSL

Fifty-six hours???? I think I went for about 36 (thanks, in part, to some appetizing jet lag) and it was bizarre and surreal. And strangely, I found that in spite of the lack of constant feed (you mean that Wilbanks lady just got cold feet?) it was simple and fun.
Congratulations on your new home again!
