Perhaps this is un-humble of me, but god I love the Salon of Shame. I’m really glad I decided to steal the idea from Sarah B., because the SoS nights always make me laugh harder than just about anything else. And this month’s event was extra funny. My favorite reading of the night was a teenage perspective on Operation Desert Storm, which included florid fantasy descriptions of holding hands with a cute boy and running through a moon-lit field and him brushing moondust off the writer’s cheek and the writer wasn’t a rose she was a unique wildflower and them giggling and oh by the way “the war is really sad and pathetic.” It was fucking awesome. There was also a short poem called “It’s Hard To Be Goth When It’s Hot.” I love the Salon of Shame. I realize now that I throw the event mostly for my own entertainment. Sure, other people get to enjoy it too, but it’s my own idea of heaven to sit and listen to people read their old diaries. I love it.

Next one will be happening in March. You really should be there. And if you’re not in Seattle, well then you really should start a Salon of Shame/Cringe/Mortified event in your town. It’s pretty easy and the most fun you’ll ever have.
