I just got confirmation that my book will be releasing mid-December of this year. (There had been some question as to whether it would be December or January.) Holy hell. That makes it really real, doesn’t it? Good thing I’m almost done writing it — I’ll be transitioning into revisions mode in a couple weeks. Also, I’m thinking of using this as my jacket photo. I was planning to do a portrait sitting, but I think that self-portrait might do the trick just fine. What do you think?
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

Congratulations! I like the second photo (the one Sara pointed out) too. But I recall an author friend telling me that jacket photos can’t have ‘teeth’ - in other words, the smile has to be close-lipped. Is that true? Does it matter to you? Both photos are gorgeous! I’m really happy for you, Ariel! Way to go!

The photo is good except that your glasses frame is blocking your near eye from sight. People want to see an author’s eyes (no matter how good the smile!). Shoot it again at a slightly different angle and you have a winner.

first photo will look much better in print. and i agree about your glasses frames sort of blocking your eyes from that angle.
i am definitely going to tell all the girls i know who are getting married in 2007 to buy your book as soon as it comes out!

So, do deadlines stress you out…or just spur you on?

Buffy, deadlines stress me out, which is why I always work ahead of schedule.

I like the one Sara pointed out too. I like seeing your braids with the color on the ends better.
I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!

Hi Ariel,
Adorable blog! And a big congratulations to you! I look forward to picking up a copy in 2007.
I’m right there with you (or where you were) when it comes to weddings. For example, top 40s just isn’t my idea of a great wedding music, BUT when it comes to dancing, psytrance, breaks, and house are more like my style. I think with our generation, “off beat” weddings just might be the new “tradition”…and maybe, even a classic in the sense of wedding creations of the highest excellence without having to sacrafice identity and budget.
