Most robbers would rather be thieves, and break-ins in our neighborhood tend to happen during the day when there's no one home, because it's easier to take someone's shit in peace rather than trying to be all quiet and sneaky and bumping around in the dark and assaulting people. Makes sense tome. And as for psychopaths? A closed door's certainly not going to stop them. That said, Seattle's no New York or LA.
