Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
The facts:
1. This weekend I bit a small rock and knocked out a crown, the tooth just to the right of my front teeth.
2. I’m getting a new porceline crown put in.
3. When I dismantled my grandmother’s wedding ring two years ago, there were several small diamonds left over. They are currently sitting in a box unused.
Then the issue becomes, should I have one of the teeny diamonds put into the crown? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for tooth bling! Andreas is moritifed by the idea, but I’m facinated. What do you think, dear blog readers? For a sample of what it would look like (but think one tooth over), I give you this picture.

Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

dear lord, no.
you are not a rapper. you are not pink. you are an adult. a published adult!!
tooth bling is not the answer.

But Dave, shouldn’t being a successful adult afford me more liberties, rather than imposing arbitrary restrictions on what I shouldn’t do?

OMG! Yes! You absolutely have to do it! I can’t see Pink’s in the picture, but it would be nine kinds of bad-ass. Being a published adult is all the more reason to do it!

Perhaps you could have a sort of bling-stealth device that could be employed during more touchy moments- job interviews, etc.? Like a tooth-cover, or maybe a tooth-rubber? Or maybe just spackle…
It’s very edgy. I’d be proud of you.

If you also embark on a hip-hop career, sure.

I once had a fake diamond glued to one of my front teeth, which I happily digested a few months later.

I’m on the fence with this one. A part of me says TOTALLY GO FOR IT, ROCK ON SISTA. It’s sentimental that you use your mother’s diamonds. But then again, you are an adult and adults shouldn’t have diamond teeth. Unless your Pink, or a rapper. I’m assuming you are neither of those

Not in love with the idea myself, but if you like it, why not.

What’s all this “adults should have” bullshit? When did everybody get so old and neo-con. Part of being an adult is paying your bills. Part of paying bills is getting a job. Part of getting a career and being happy in life is not compromising yourself. To me, part of being successful is being able to do whatever the fuck you want with your appearance. When I turned 30, I got a huge, obnoxious tattoo of an anchor in an unhidable place (my wrist). I did this to reinforce my values of being successful w.o having to worhsip at the alter of THE MAN. I don’t want to work for any company who wouldn’t hire me bc of a tattoo. It reflects a larger set of values I don’t want to support. Believe it or not, there are people who are changing the world (me) with big tattoos, nose rings, vintage dresses or neon green crocs (that would be all of the above, in my case). My definition of success does not include wearing a suit. I think Ms. Stallings has her life pretty well figured out and matching seperates from Theory are not in her horizon.

Thanks for weighing in, everyone! I have ultimately decided not to do it, because the lab my dentist uses doesn’t do it and so it would add not only additional cost but also delay to the process of getting my damn crown. And while a diamond would be cool, part of the enjoyment of the idea for me was the convenience (I have the diamond so it’ll be cheap, I’m getting the crown so why not?) and all of a sudden when it became totally inconvenient and expensive, the idea lost some of its appeal.
Maybe next time….

Well I see you did put the dimond in but i think it is a great idea. It gives u a chance to be different and show your true personality.
