Yay! It was awesome. Better panels, more people, and better conferfence rooms with way better accoustics. My only complaint for the day was that THREE panels I wanted to attend were schedule concurrently … seriously, YOU try choosing between Heather Armstrong, Susie Bright, and Danah Boyd. It’s fucking hard! But, in the spirit of those expletives, I opted for Susie Bright who was on a panel of sex bloggers. I think I might the right decision, but I’ll have to listen to the pod casts of the other sessions to be sure.
I’ve met a million and a half amazing women this weekend, including Anastasia Goodstein, another blogger-to-author who just finished her first book. Clearly, a growing number of bloggers are making the transition to writing books, and next year perhaps I’ll pitch a panel on Blogher to Author. It’s an interesting process filled with agents and editors and enormous wordcounts … it was great to talk to other women (Maggie Mason among them) who’ve made the same transition.
There were some great quotes during the course of the day, in both the “Is the next Martha Stewart a blogger?” panel and the “Let’s talk about sex” panel. Well, and then there were the late night shenanigans where it was decreed that the phrase “Baby Jessica is stuck in the well” was the worst sex analogy evar. I also really enjoyed the closing keynote, and hearing about Arianna Huffington’s Sleep Movement. I can get behind that cause.
I’d write more, but I’m in a state of totally overstimulated saturation. Last night I woke up at 3am with a chorus of women’s voices echoing between my eyes, bits of conversation and wisdom and nonsense. I stayed up for a while listening to them.
I’ll have more later (including LOTS OF LINKS!) but for now I must sign off, shut up, and go into hiding.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

would you have any suggestions for someone who has a (nonfiction) book idea but has never really written anything before? would it be best to just start writing and worry about all the other stuff (publishing, etc) after? haha, I guess that seems logical .. but I’m not known for being a logical girl.
